Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. As the notes suggest, he was the son of a Walter and Sarah Jane and he worked in a dyeworks before enlisting in March 1916. Initially posted Missing, he was later reported as presumed dead. The memorial is said to give his age as 25 but they record the press as saying he was either 22 or 23. He is also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
