Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the details, their source being Todmorden Advertiser of 25th October 1918. They agree on date of death and manner of death with the notes attached but do not on place of burial or age (they say 37): it is unclear why the My Methodist History website lists him as a Gunner in the RFA. Assuming this is John Walton Greenwood, he was the son of Miles and Susy (presumably it is their grave he is commemorated on here?) and was a member of this chapel's choir when he was young. He worked as a weaver before enlisting in April 1916, serving in Ireland before crossing to France. he died from a wound to his left leg in a dressing station during an attack on Aubers Ridge.
