Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) provide the extra detail and found him also listed on IWM 2224 and 596 in Todmorden. They say he was a weaver for a local firm and played football for Cornholme Wanderers before he enlisted, first into the Devons and then via the DLI to the Northumberland Fusiliers: some press reports had him only as a Private. Collins' work (see References) says he is listed on the Arras Memorial and his parents lived in Cornholme. Both sources agree dates of death, unit and service number.
