Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) found him also listed on IWM 2224 and 596 in Todmorden. Using the press reports of his death, they say he was unmarried and worked in a bobbin works before he enlisted in May 1916 and died of chronic interstitial nephritis at a casualty clearing station. J T Collins' work (see References) says his parents lived in Portsmouth and suggests he died of wounds after a bombing raid on Doullens (presumably by the Germans). Both agree the date of death and service number: Collins gives his burial place.
