Exact wording unknown; the endowment was reportedly in memory of Lieut. George William Johnson, who was 'killed at Amiens' in 1918, aged 20. (N.B. Syndicated press reports re the endowment of the memorial bed misprinted his date of death as 24th August 1918; official records state that he died on 24th April 1918).
