While the date 10 April 1944 is commonly associated with Charles Edward (Ted) Suffren, an Australian airman, he did not actually die on that date. His aircraft was attacked by a German night-fighter and crashed near Ale (Aale), Denmark. Suffren was taken to a hospital in Horsens, Denmark where he received care. He was moved to a Luftwaffe hospital in Bad Tölz, Germany, where he died from his injuries on 16 February 1945.
