Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He worked as a weaver but was an avid gardener in his spare time before he enlisted in August 1916, moving overseas by January 1917. He is not commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial on their lists and his age was given as both 20 and 21 in the press when his death was reported.
