Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was an apprentice at a mill, his father was the organist at this church, and he too played the organ (at a church in Londonthorpe near Grantham during his training). He served in France where he caught pneumonia, but he drowned on the way to serve in Egypt. He is also commemorated on IWM 2830.
