Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. The brother of Lawrence, also commemorated here, he died on the Somme around the same time as his father who had 30 years of service in the same regiment. Both brothers were born in Natal: Edgar worked for the Yorkshire and Lancashire Railway before the war. He is also commemorated on IWM 2830 (with his brother) and 2738.
