Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was working in London on the staff of the LNW Railway when he enlisted in 1916 - he seems to have been rejected on the grounds of poor eyesight before that. He died when hit by a shell splinter as he acted as a Lewis Gunner trying to stop the German breakthrough. He is also commemorated on IWM 2822 and possibly on 2689.
