Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was the church caretaker and worked as a weaver before enlisting in July 1916. The brother of Arthur, also commemorated on this memorial, although they lived on the same street, Dewsbury Street, as James of the same surname who is also commemorated on this memorial, Hornshaw and Fowler could find no evidence they were related.
