Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was the elder brother of James Arthur, also commemorated here, and worked as a painter and decorator: he was also a member of the Constitutional Club and was a notable billiards player. He enlisted in April 1916, once survived being wounded but died of a second wound in a NZ hospital. Like his brother he is also commemorated on IWM 2738 and 2747: notices of their deaths arrived at their home in the same post.
