Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. Married, to Eliza, he played football for Brighouse Rangers and worked at a dyeworks. He died aboard the hospital ship Lanfranc of wounds and dilation of his heart due to seasickness: his body was landed at Netley and buried in the town cemetery.
