Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. An unmarried man who was educated at Heath School, Halifax and worked for the family lino manufacturing business, becoming Managing Director of the Sowerby Bridge branch. As a Territorial he was called up in August 1914 and died from shellfire. He is widely commemorated in the area on IWM 2689, 29395, 2727 and 2601.
