Notes
The memorial states he died undertaking 'Secret Work'. In fact, The IWM (https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/lifestory/2108485) states that he was a science master and house master at the school before the war, enlisted on 15th August 1915, was 'discharged from Royal Engineers [in October 1915] and appointed to Civilian war works at a munitions factory as [a] gas warfare specialist.' He 'died while attempting to save trapped workers from a fire/explosion in Rainham, Essex' on 14th September 1916.
