Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
A four light stained glass window with tracery above, and an associated brass plaque with enamelled, incised inscription fixed on the stonework below.
The main lights feature four Saints - Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Ludovic (King Louis XI of France), Saint Longinus (reputed name of the centurion who pierced the side of Christ on the cross, and became a convert to Christianity, and St George.
Above them the subject's family crest and regimental badge flank the tracery, the four principle lights of which depict angels bearing objects associated with the Crucifiction of Christ, with the Scales of Justice to their left and on their right a scroll bearing the text 'Fulgebunt justi sicut sol in conspectu Dei' (The Just shine like the Sun at the face of God - Luke 1,68/9). Beneath the four main lights are panels depicting angels holding the 'Whole Armour of God' (Ephesians 6, 13-17)
