The following information was supplied by the school in 2024: 'Father Fruiterer and greengrocer, father a widower and Herbert recorded as helping at home in 1911. 14 High Street. Enlisted September 1914 as a territorial. Noted by LHS December 1914. Private 1st Herefordshires and also 5th Suffolk Regiment. Served 2b area 16/10/15. Awarded 15 Star. Medal roll notes that he was not eligible for Palestine Medal.'
