The following information was supplied by the school in 2024: 'Born Kington [in 1888], Son of James Meredith, Iron founder and Iron Monger 3 & 4 High Street Kington [one of 5 who went to the school and also served, 2 being killed]. Joined up 20/10/14 in London to the Royal Sussex Regiment. He was a salesman. Noted in Kington Times May 1915. Corporal RE. Transferred to RE Pioneers 17/8/15, posted to Special Companies 22/11/15. Corporal 17/8/15. Gassed 11/12/15. 14-15 Star. Not discharged until 1920. Llanfair House Kington. In the service records, there is a detail of a claim for a pension to "confusional insanity". It appears that the claim was not upheld at a medical tribunal.'
