The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'William Henry Tucker Hill was born on 2 May 1873, the second of eleven children born to James Ledger Hill and Mary Tucker of Combe Grove, near Bath. He was at Charterhouse [Lockites] between 1886 and 1889. After leaving school, he studied at Jesus College Cambridge. He was commissioned into the 5th Lancers in 1895. He was killed during the assault on Ladysmith, South Africa, on 6 January 1900.'
