The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'George Holt Davenport was born on 18 December 1877 in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, the second child of Samuel Yates Holt Davenport of Bembridge, Isle of Wight, and Emmeline Louisa Frederica Robertson. He was at Charterhouse [Verites] 1891-1895; whilst at the School he was injured when staging set up for a school photograph collapsed in Founder’s Court. He joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, fighting in the early stages of the Boer War. He died of typhoid while on active service at Standerton, South Africa on 23 June 1901.'
