The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'George Frederick Campbell Gildea was born on 12 April 1876, the only son of Major General George Frederick Gildea and Eliza Campbell, in Dunbartonshire. He was at Charterhouse [Gownboys] between 1890 and 1892. He joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1899 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He died of enteric fever while on active service in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on 18 April 1901, aged 25.'
