The school website (see References) provides this biography: 'Edward Vanrenan Ingham Brooke was born on 23 September 1877, son of The Ven. Joshua Ingram Brooke, Archdeacon of Halifax, and Grace Charlotte Brooke. He was at Charterhouse [Girdlestoneites] 1891-1894 and then at Magdalen College, Oxford; he represented Oxford in the High Jump at the Inter ‘Varsity Sports of 1898. He entered the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1899, receiving his commission as Lieutenant in 1900. He was killed in action at Bakenlaagte on 30 October 1901, aged 24.'
