Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married and played cornet and trumpet for both the Friendly Band and the New Californians Dance Band. He served in both HMS Lanka and aboard the SS Khedive Ismail: he was lost on the latter and is also commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial, but this is his only commemoration in Calderdale as far as they could discover.
