Married to Constance Carrie, with a daughter, he worked as an agent for the Prudential but also trained as a motor engineer so, when he volunteered in 1940, he worked first in Morecombe as a civilian engineer and then was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1941. He died of heart failure and is also commemorated on IWM 2673. The press said he was 35 but the family gave says 34.
