How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
Memorial window presented in 1922 by the Queen’s Westminster Rifles, a battalion of The London Regiment, in gratitude for the hospitality given by local residents when the battalion was billeted in the village from August to November 1914 - It shows St. George and St. Louis in armour, with allusions to the crusades and the relics King Louis supposedly brought back. At the base, the trials and justice of their cause are represented by bare earth and ruined churches that give way to a floral foreground where the saints stand. The blue background is patterned with what is known as a 'seaweed' design and this carries through into the tracery lights, and a scroll proclaiming the words “St. George for England”.
