St Mary's Euxton - WW1 Windows

A set of nine stained glass windows arranged together in the apse of the church. Nine Saints are depicted in the windows, with a related symbol in the trefoil tracery above each figure. The unusual feature of the windows is that the names of the Saints correspond to the nine Christian names of those commemorated on the church's external War Memorial (WMR 42363), with the fortuitous coincidence that the central window depicts the church's Patron Saint, Mary. There is an accompanying brass plaque bearing the incised names of the nine casualties on the west wall of the church, under the choir gallery.
The erection of the windows was part of a more comprehensive scheme to place stained glass windows throughout the church to commemorate the church's Diamond Jubilee in 1925-6.
