Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
The East Window was inserted into the eastern end of the church, behind the main altar on Easter Sunday, May 1951, in the presence of a Mr Crampin, the chairman of the Trawler Owner’s Association. It was dedicated by the vicar, Gervase W. Markham. It is a war memorial, commemorating the lives of Grimsby Fishermen during the Second World War, and its cost was defrayed by the Grimsby Trawler Owner’s Association. The design of the window reflects this occupation and tradition, with many references to fishermen, trawlers, fishing nets and seagulls. There are also large spaces of clear glass so that the light from outside is admitted rather than obscured. JR
