Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
Originally in the old Mill Road Primitive church. Church Memorial Window-“The Crown of Life” The photograph above shows Christ dressed in royal robes decorated with fleur-de-lys. He is presenting a crown to a knight who has been on a vigil and is kneeling with hand on his sword. A shield is on his shoulder. The knight is clad in mail and wearing a surcoat which has a lion rampant on the front. Underneath are the words” De thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life” These words are taken from the second of seven letters written to the Church in Asia Minor (Revelation, chapter 2). The letter praises the loyalty of the church in Smyrna (The modern Izmir and gateway to Ephesus) in the time of persecution. It was Christ “who became dead and lived again” who was speaking to the loyal church, and through them, to all faithful Christians down the ages” The window was unveiled on 3rd January 1924 by Mr. John W. Grant.
