Additional general notes on the memorial
St. Andrews Citizen - Saturday 30 December 1916
IN MEMORY OF A BRAVE FIFE FACTOR. — A stained glass memorial window has been dedicated in the Kingussie Parish Church in memory of Private .James Charles Brewster Macpherson of Balavil, 23rd Royal Fusiliers (Sportsmen’s Battalion), who ,was killed in action in France on 5th March 1916. He the second son of Mr Macpherson, Badenoch, and in civil life was factor tor Teasses estates, Fifeshire. His country’s call found him ready, and, declining commission, he was content to serve in the ranks. The window, the gift of his parents, was designed by Messrs Kemp, of London. It is a single light, and represents the Crucifixion, with the weeping women at the foot of the Cross and a Roman soldier standing by. The inscription is, “Greater love hath no roan than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend,” and it explains the motive of the window. It was unveiled by ex-Provost James MacDonald, sen., an elder in the church, and the dedication service was conducted by the Rev. D. Macfarlane, parish minister.
