Memorial Details
What type of memorial is it?
How would you describe the memorial and its ornamentation?
Two stained glass windows with a dedicatory brass plaque with inscribed, painted lettering on the wooden frame. The left window depicts St Michael carrying the shield of St George. Under the figure of St Michael is a panel depicting soldiers disembarking from an infantry landing craft on the Normandy beach. The right window depicts St George carrying a white shield charged with a blue cross with a sword set upon it (the shield of the Second Army). Below a panel shows a tank advancing over open country inland. There is a plaque and a framed, illuminated scroll (IWM 49478) on an adjacent wall describes the history of the windows.
