IN 1940 THIS THEN NEWLY BUILT CHURCH HAD ITS EAST WINDON BLOWN IN BY ONE OF THE FIRST AIR RAIDS. IT WAS BOARDED BUT FROM 1943 EFFORTS TO RAISE MONEY TO REPLACE THE WIDOW WERE ALREADY UNDER WAY. THIS WAS COMPLETED AND INSTALLED AS A MEMORIAL TO LOCAL PEOPLE EFFECTED BY BOMBING AND LOSS OF LIFE.
