Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details including alternate spelling of his surname. A postman, he was married, to Hannah, and was an ex-Regular who had been wounded in the Second Boer War - a fact his wife only discovered when she was treating him for a dog bite! Called up in August 1914, he is also commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. The press gave his age as 32 and 33.
