Notes
The Roll lists his name as 'G. Southwell', his address as Silver Street, and states that he died of wounds, without any details of the date/location. (In fact, man to whom the Roll alludes was Richard George Southwell, of 53 Silver Street, and he was mistakenly included on the Roll as, whilst he was taken Prisoner of War on 30/11/1917, he actually survived his WW1 service in the London Scottish. His Army service file records that he was repatriated to England on 3/12/1918, and awarded an Army pension, due to TB, and that he died 1/10/1965, aged 78].
(N.B. The Roll is known to include numerous errors, including: misspelt names and inaccurate date/place of death, service number/ rank/ military unit etc; several casualties were mistakenly listed on it twice [i.e. under their true name and also the alias under which they served]; several other men were listed on it due to the mistaken belief they had died, whereas they had actually survived).
