Notes
The Roll lists his address as 26 Duke Street. [At the draft stage, the Roll listed this man twice: once under the address 26 Duke Street, and again under the address 166 Gladstone Street, with both recording identical rank, regiment, number etc. The only difference was that the Gladstone Street entry listed his date of death as 4th November 1918. However, the mistake re the double entry for him was spotted timeously, and the latter entry had been crossed through and voided by the time the 'completed' version of the Roll was presented to the Mayor. We therefore similarly need no Names record re that duff entry].
(N.B. The Roll is known to include numerous errors, including: misspelt names and inaccurate date/place of death, service number/ rank/ military unit etc; several casualties were mistakenly listed on it twice [i.e. under their true name and also the alias under which they served]; several other men were listed on it due to the mistaken belief they had died, whereas they had actually survived).
