Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. Before the war he worked in a local quarry. Thereafter, what is known, thanks to the Red Cross, is that he died whilst a POW having enlisted in 1939. What is unclear is when - the press reported 11/6/40 and 4/10/40 - or how old he was (as they gave his age as both 23 and 24).
