Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler and CWGC provide all details. Despite living in Halifax, he had been a boarder at the nearby Crossley and Porter School, playing rugby for them. He then worked for his father as a florist, got married, became a father and received his DFC in June 1940 for shooting down 5 enemy aircraft. He himself was shot down over Dunkirk and is commemorated on the Runnymede memorial.
