CWGC state he was the son of Arthur and Margaret Whitham; husband of Benedetta Whitham, of Lee Mount, Halifax. Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) add that they had 3 children and he was working as a Commissionaire at the Cinema Royal in Halifax when, as a Territorial (sine the age of 15) he was called up. CWGC give his age as 34, Hornshaw and Fowler 32.
