Born in Glanamman, Wales, on 6 July 1920, the only son of William John Rees, a milk-factory manager, of Banbury, Oxfordshire, William was educated at Llandovery College School and came up to Corpus in 1938. He achieved a 2nd in his public examination in History and Politics in 1940 and was Secretary of Rugby (1939-1940) and President of the Sundial Society (1940) but did not complete his degree as he enlisted in 1941 and was killed that year.
