Notes
CWGC have no record of an A J Sanger of the Merchant Navy in their WW2 Casualty Register. The National Maritime Museum's record of 'Merchant Seamen Deaths at Sea 1939-1953' lists that Alfred James Sanger (born Fawley, resident at Thornbury Avenue, Blackfield, Southampton ) died aged 34 as 3rd Engineer Officer on a War Department Vessel called 'Grey Dame', which went missing at sea on 26/10/1942, but that the War Office (ref RG234/43) stated that 'the crew did not lose their lives owing to war operations'.
