Notes
The Roll of Honour merely listed the names of those who enlisted, and was not annotated re whether they survived or died, or if they were decorated. However, it is known that John Crawshaw Raynes of Leeds City Police received the Victoria Cross while serving in the RFA (published London Gazette 18/11/1915), and that he died on 12/11/1929 from paralysis and depression that resulted from the injuries he sustained in the War. (These included being badly gassed when he loaned his gas mask to a wounded soldier who he rescued on 11/10/1915, and being buried alive the following day under a house that was shelled).
