Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a married man and an ex-regular with 12 years' service in the 9th Lancers. He enlisted at the outbreak of war and sailed to South Africa in January 1900: he died of enteric fever on the SS Mongolian returning home and is also commemorated on IWM 2599.
