Notes
The Roll mistakenly listed Thomas Church twice: once recording his address as 151 Star Road and that he was KIA as Sergeant 7588 in the 1st Northants on 19/7/1917 [sic]; and again on the next page of the Roll, listing his address as 654 Lincoln Road, and that he died as a Sergeant in the 1st Northants on 7/7/1916 [sic].
In fact, only one Thomas Church from Peterborough died in WW1. He was born 1885, son of Sarah and John Church, with whom he was living at 151 Star Road on the 1901 Census. On the 1911 Census Thomas' parents were still at that address, but he himself was staying with his sister and her husband in Stanground. CWGC records that Thomas died on 8/7/1916 as Sergeant 7588 in the 2nd Battalion, Northants Regiment, and is buried in Ovillers Cemetery in France. (The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that his father John Church was his legatee).
It appears the fact that Thomas had left his parents' home before the War resulted in him being mistakenly listed twice on the 1921 Roll of Honour, under different addresses. (The incorrect date of death of 1917 on this entry for him under the 151 Star Road address seems to have arisen from his having been confused with a Private Thomas William Church, 200957, who died in Palestine on 19/7/1917 serving in the Northants Regiment. The other entry for Thomas Church correctly listed him as having died in July 1916, but wrongly listed his address as 654 Lincoln Road - having mistakenly assigned to him the address of a different Peterborough casualty named Thomas Barron, who is listed on the Roll). Confusion/clerical errors re Thomas Church's date of death and address evidently led to him being mistakenly listed on the Roll twice. JK
