The Church plaque for WW2 gives his name as Gunner Arthur Francis, expected that a transcription error took place when the RoH book was being updated, and 'George' was entered instead of 'Gunner'. Birth and Census records him only as 'Arthur'.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records that Gunner Arthur Francis, son of Arthur and Margaret Bessie Francis of Oundle, was serving in 116 Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery (regimental number 960209) when he died on 8/7/1944, aged 26. He is buried in grave 4.D.9 at Hermanville War Cemetery in France.
