The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records that Private William Harry Thorpe of the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, regimental number 14270, died aged 23 on 4/9/1914. He is buried in grave 1.3 at the Guards Grave Cemetery in Villers Cotterets Forest in France.
