Notes
The Roll of Honour mistakenly lists this man twice: once as "Phillip Wade" and again (on a different page of the Roll) as "Phillip Whale"; a further complication is that neither of those surnames is in fact correct.
The true name of the man to whom both entries on the Roll is alluding was actually Phillip Wale, who died in Egypt on 4/4/1917 as Private 250778 in the Essex Regiment. For accurate details re Phillip Wale, see our Names record 591932 (i.e. under the transcribed misspelling "Phillip Whale").
This rogue entry, under "Phillip Wade", records his address as Dogsthorpe Road, and inaccurately states he died on 14/4/1917. Although it is effectively a duplicate entry, it nonetheless exists as a separate line on the Roll; we therefore need this names record of it, to avoid the false impression that it has been overlooked.
