He enrolled Worcester College, Oxford 1911 and the college archie adds: 'Kenneth Aplin matriculated in 1911 but did not take a degree. He joined the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 1 November 1913 and following the outbreak of war left for the front on 13 September 1914. He was killed in action near Messines, Belgium, on 1 November 1914.'
