Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. Walter was a member of the chapel choir and lived locally with his wife, Isabella, and they had one child. He was one of the many men of the West Riding Regiment killed in the failed attack on the Schwaben Redoubt on 3rd September 1916 and, like so many of them, is also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (as well, in his case, on IWM 2224, 2721 and possibly also 596).
