Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. A farmer's son, educated at Hipperholme Grammar (and also commemorated there), he was a clerk to the Halifax County Court for 6 years before enlisting in June 1917. He was killed by shellfire and is also listed on IWM 2689 and 2822.
