Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) provide the extra details. He was originally from Barnsley and is also listed on IWM 2689. They also recorded his brother, Thomas, as being named on this memorial but he appears not to be. Thomas was married, with a child, and working at a chemical works before he enlisted in February 1915: he went missing in the German trenches NE of Arras on May 3rd, 1917, whilst serving as a Private in the Prince of Wales' West Yorkshires, and is also listed on the Arras Memorial.
