Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) provide the extra details. He was an Assistant Teacher before he enlisted in August 1914. He was wounded at Loos in 1915 and recovered and was to return to his unit but then died during an operation for appendicitis. Like his brother, Joseph Francis who was also killed (in 1917, serving with the Royal Scots at Ypres), he is also listed on IWM 2689, but only Thomas is also listed on 2722.
